Housed in a 300–year–old building that was a Jesuit monastery; Samari Spa Resort is a handcrafted gem in the hot springs town of Baños, three hours from Quito. Architecturally, this classical-colonial resort has an interesting complex of buildings using local materials in their construction, such as Eucalyptus wood and stones from the nearby Tunguruhua volcano. Several new guest cottages were constructed from adobe and wood, adorned with red-tile roofs, and a part of the main building’s façade is inlaid with rocks and mortar, creating the appearance of an old English castle while stained-glass windows enhance the effect throughout the structure. This historic house took Dr. Jose Gallegos and his wife Tania 10 years of work, audacity and creativity, and taking into account thousands of details with the aim of providing its guests with a destination of rest, adventure and unique well-being in an authentic and luxurious style. They decided to name it “Samari,” a Quechua word meaning, “enjoy and feel at home.”
This eclectic spa was designed as a chalet-type hotel highlighting a glass atrium roof covering the entire building. Common walkways lead to rooms on the first and second floors and an inner garden shares the courtyard with a gurgling stone fountain. The restored monastery (the main building) is multi-leveled and enhanced with skylights; while a high dome ceiling creates an impressive entry with the reception room adjacent to it. A combination bar and breakfast room continues the style of adobe, wood, and wrought iron. Samari Spa Resort features 37 splendid rooms fitted with Beds with double goose down, cable TV, telephone, free WIFI, safe, smoke detectors, pure water and fruits, large bathrooms, hair dryer and amenities. A night stay at this resort includes breakfast buffet of the best Ecuadorian cuisine, free access to the Oriental Spa: indoor and heated pool, jacuzzi, sauna, Turkish bath, polar and whirlpools.
Guests of the Samari can rest in splendid luxury rooms, walk and discover a unique, preserved and authentic place, savor live exquisite gastronomic experiences in the resort’s gourmet restaurant and enjoy sensations of well-being in the exclusive Spa. For visitors interested in outdoor activities, the Samari staff will help arrange tours. From Local guided adventures including biking, bungee jumping, rock climbing, quad ATV riding, trekking, white-water rafting, canyoning, and horseback riding; to softer tours, like riding a Chivas bus (no doors) to marvel at the waterfalls or visit Puyo, a town in the Amazon Rainforest. Samari Spa Resort is truly an exceptional choice in this attractive Andean town.
